Our Mission & Origin

About Film Fan Awards

Revisiting cinema history through fan choice, conversation, and personal Film Journals.

A New Look at Film History

The first Academy Awards ceremony was held in 1929, honoring films released in 1927 and 1928. Since then, the Academy's choices have become part of film history. But movies keep being discovered, discussed, and reevaluated long after awards night is over.

Film Fan Awards gives movie fans a structured way to revisit those ceremonies, make their own choices from the historical nominees in Film Fan Awards voting categories, and compare today's fan perspective with the Academy's original results.

What Is Film Fan Awards?

Beginning with the 22nd Academy Awards in 1950, Film Fan Awards lets verified members explore historic ceremonies and cast retrospective votes in the Film Fan Awards categories available for each year.

Voting is only part of the experience. Members can build a personal Film Journal, collect their thoughts about nominated films, and share those reflections with other film fans. Over time, each ceremony becomes both a fan-voted record and a growing collection of reactions to film history.

Our Mission

  • Revisit Film History: Encourage fans to discover and reconsider films, performances, direction, music, design, and other achievements across decades of cinema.
  • Give Fans a Voice: Provide a consistent, verified voting experience that asks a simple question: with the benefit of hindsight, who would fans choose?
  • Build a Film Journal: Give members a place to collect and share their thoughts on the films they watch along the way.
  • Encourage Thoughtful Discussion: Create a community built around informed opinions, personal reflection, and respect for differing tastes.
